About us
St George's Hospital is one of four major trauma centres for London, and home to hyper acute stroke and heart attack centres. We operate one of London's four helipads, which means we treat some of the most unwell and severely injured patients from across the south of England.
We are one of London's largest children's hospitals, with one of only four paediatric trauma units in London. St George's also hosts the only paediatric intensive care unit in south west London. We are one of the top three centres for specialist paediatric surgery in London, and a centre of excellence in fetal medicine.
St George's is also a major centre for neurosciences, and the third largest provider in London for neurosurgery. We also offer many innovative treatments for patients - for example, we were the first centre in the country to provide a 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy service, which involves surgically removing blood clots from the brain for patients who have had a stroke.
Many of our services are also part of established clinical networks, which bring together clinicians and support staff from a range of healthcare providers to improve the quality of services for patients. In 2015, we became a Foundation Trust, which gives us greater control over how we run and organise our services.
