Job summary
We are looking for a trainee with a keen interest in cardiology and heart failure, ideally ST3 level having completed CMT training to start Aug 2023. The successful candidate will provide clinical cover on the 11 bed Heart Failure Unit with a senior heart failure fellow and be supported by five heart failure consultants.
Main duties of the job
The primary goal of this fellowship is to provide a thorough knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of congestive heart failure with an emphasis on pathophysiology, imaging, therapeutics, and prevention through to end of life care. Training and active participation in research and education will provide the trainee with further experience in thinking critically, evaluating the clinical literature, and preparing the candidate for a career in heart failure. There will also be opportunity for weekly heart failure clinics and to participate in CRT optimisation, cardio-renal and cardio-metabolic clinics. Depending on the needs of the candidate, there will be opportunity to participate in cardiac imaging (echocardiography and cardiac MRI), heart failure research as an Investigator in Acute Heart Failure Trials on the Unit and in the training and education of nurses and allied medical staff.
About us
The St George's Heart Failure team is dedicated to excellence in specialist and evidence-based heart failure care. The team is made up of a variety of health care professionals from various disciplines including highly trained cardiologists, heart failure registrars, specialist heart failure nurses and a dedicated heart failure therapy team with a specialist physiotherapist, a heart failure dietician and occupational therapist. We have close links with the heart rhythm team for complex heart rhythm management and device implantation and the pulmonary hypertension, cardiac rehabilitation and palliative care services. There will also be opportunity to participate in a specialised heart failure-renal clinic and cardiometabolic clinic. We also work closely with our team of specialist community heart failure nurses covering Wandsworth, Sutton, Merton, Lambeth and Croydon.
The post holder should have completed their General Professional Training and hold full MRCP or equivalent. The clinical, research and educational experience gained will provide an excellent foundation for future career in heart failure.
