Job summary

We have two exciting opportunities for qualified Nurses with respiratory experience to join our wonderful multidisciplinary respiratory team, here at St George's NHS trust.

  1. Permanent Post, specialist interest in Severe Asthma
  2. 12-month Maternity cover, specialist interest in COPD/NIV

Main duties of the job

We are looking for two experienced respiratory nurses to provide autonomous holistic care to patients with respiratory disease across the St George's NHS Trust sites.

The posts will care for patients admitted to St George's hospital with respiratory conditions, predominately Asthma and COPD. The respiratory nurses will provide rapid review and will develop and implement evidence-based management plans to support admission and discharge, liaising with internal and external MDT members as necessary.

Additionally, here at St George's we have two specialists' respiratory services, Domiciliary Non-Invasive Ventilation and Severe Asthma. Whilst there will be division of specialist role focus for each post, there will be the opportunity to develop skills and experience across both if desired. There will also be staff line management and service development support expected.

The successful applicant will need to have excellent communication and organization skills, the ability to care for patients with complex health needs and a passion for respiratory care, as well as be willing to work across SGH sites if needed.

  • NMC registered
  • Degree (BSc) or equivalent in a health related subject
  • Relevant Post registration course (e.g. respiratory/critical care/NIV)
  • Advanced Clinical assessment skills accredited module or willing to undertake
  • Smoking Cessation level 2

Desirable

  • Degree (MSc) or willing to undertake
  • Non-Medical Prescriber
  • ARTP Spirometry certification

Experience

Essential

  • An advanced practitioner either through formal qualification (as above) and/or extensive clinical experience pertinent to the area - as aligned to 4 pillars of advanced practice.
  • Minimum of 5 years post registration experience within an acute or respiratory setting
  • Ability to build up a rapport with patients and the MDT
  • Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers, with different levels of understanding
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience of delivering presentations
  • Experience of service development/quality improvement

  • HDU or critical care experience
  • Experience in caring for patients requiring acute NIV
