Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Respiratory Physiology at St George's Hospital for a skilled and enthusiastic senior respiratory physiologist. As a prestigious teaching hospital we are closely linked to the University and play a role in the teaching of students.
We are an expanding yet close knit and very busy team looking for someone who will excel professionally and thrive in the environment. The successful candidate will need to be an experienced, friendly and highly motivated person with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A commitment to providing a high quality service is essential.
As the successful candidate, you will be required to perform a full range of lung function investigations in our adult and paediatric services. You will need to have an excellent understanding of diagnostic sleep testing, analysis of respiratory sleep studies and CPAP treatment including titration, trouble shooting, advice and maintenance.
You will also be expected to play an active role in the education and training of respiratory physiology trainees as well as other healthcare professionals. You will also be given the opportunity to develop your leadership skills by line managing the assistant physiologist in the department.
A Clinical Physiology BSc or equivalent is required with at least two years experience as a Band 5 Clinical Physiologist.
Main duties of the job
To perform lung function and sleep.
To perform, analyse and produce reports on a full range of lung function tests without supervision.
Set-up, download and analyse domiciliary respiratory sleep studies.
Perform a lead role in the CPAP clinic.
To maintain, calibrate and disinfect the equipment according to Trust and departmental policy.
Ensure appropriate information is entered onto Trust and departmental databases.
Supervise and assist in the training of student Nurses, Physiotherapists and Medical Students.
Take a lead role in the training and development of student and junior respiratory Healthcare Scientists and Physiologists.
To have a flexible approach to working that matches the clinical needs of the service that will involve shift-work and working cross-site.
