Job summary
The post will be based within the haemodialysis units where the post holder will be responsible for ensuring that a robust competency-based training & development program for new and existing staff is designed to ensure staff take responsibility for individualised patient care on the haemodialysis units.
To ensure that on completion of the basic dialysis training programme for staff new to haemodialysis that the care giver is competent to provide dialysis treatments in a safe manner, for instance but not exclusively:- knowledge of kidney failure- knowledge of how a haemodialysis machine works- knowledge of the principles of haemodialysis
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the training and development programs for staff who are new to haemodialysis; to introduce new members to the theoretical and practical skills required to competently participate in the delivery of renal replacement therapy in a safe and supported teaching environment so that staff can participate in the assistance or provision of safe, effective; evidence-based practice to patients undergoing haemodialysis treatment at St Georges Hospital.To ensure considerable contact time, teaching and support to take new staff through the different stages of knowledge and skill until clinical and theoretical competence is achieved within a four-week period.To ensure that staff competency is assessed before the learner works unsupervised and that mentorship support is provided on completion of the training program.To guide and actively encourage staff through the different stages of their professional development in caring for patients undergoing long term treatment
