Job summary
Applications are invited for substantive consultant with an interest in Neuro Anaesthesia. There are two vacant posts due to expansion of neuro surgical work - both are for 10PAs and the post holders will join the Neuro on-call rota.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will have sessions in neurosurgery, neuroradiology and general anaesthesia. The posts additionally include annualised sessionswhich can be used to maintain flexibility and skill level across multiple specialty lists. Annualised sessions are performed when needed by the department and chosen by the individual.

The anaesthetic department is a highly diverse and inclusive workforce with over 100 consultants providing expertise in a wide variety of anaesthetic subspecialties including Paediatrics, Neurosurgery, Cardio-thoracics, Intensive Care, Acute and Chronic Pain relief and academic positions in SGUL. There are over 60 trainees from St George's School of Anaesthesiaand clinical fellows who rotate through the anaesthesia subspecialties.
The St George's Hospital Atkinson Morley Neurosurgical Unit is a leading UK centre for both adult and paediatric neurosurgery. It is a designated trauma centre with a specific neurosurgery service that manages all head injury patients. The Department of Anaesthesia covers all surgical specialities and is currently involved in many exciting initiatives. - Holder of Certificate of completion of training (CCT) training in Anaesthesia or equivalent, within six months of interview
- FRCA or equivalent
- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for registration within six months of interview.
Desirable
- MSC, PHD or similar
- Other resuscitation certifications
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of broad experience in all aspects of general anaesthesia and able to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of the patients
- Experience of NHS working practices and systems (minimum one year working for the NHS)
- At least 6 months Advanced Training or equivalent, or Fellowship in neuroanesthesia
Desirable
- Relevant publications in peer reviewed literature
- Post graduate research
