This job is now closed
Job summary
A Clinical Fellow position at ST3+ level has arisen. The post is designed to deliver clinical care in the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) at St George's Hospital and to co-ordinate and deliver simulation and skills training across SW London (Core Medicine Training programme) at Georges Advanced Patient Simulator in the St George's University of London.
This represents an opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join a dynamic clinical team in Acute Medicine within a newly redesigned AMU. The appointee will join 6 other clinical fellows and work with 14 consultants, in a hugely supported environment with consultant presence on the unit between 08:00 - 21:30, which offers the ideal setting for a trainee to develop further the required skills of a medical registrar.
Main duties of the job
- The Clinical fellows will be required to perform clinical work on the AMU and the Ambulatory Care Unit, both as the first doctor to see patients with the range of problems which present to a busy urban emergency department, and supervising the work of more junior staff, as well as participating in Acute Medicine Clinics and the management of patients on the AMU.
- The appointees will work closely with the admitting general medical and the multidisciplinary team
- The post holders will be expected to contribute to the performance of administrative duties on the AMU - such as checking radiology reports and microbiology results - and to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service, as required.
- It is envisaged that the appointees would share the running of the MDT meetings with the Consultants for Acute Medicine.
- The post holders will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical students and junior doctors. There may also be an opportunity to contribute to the teaching of specialist nurses, e.g. Nurse Practitioners.
- The appointees will be expected to undertake audit, and be encouraged to take on clinical research projects depending on the interests of the successful applicant(s).
