Job summary
Experienced and enthusiastic doctors (CT1/2 equivalent) are required for fixed term positions in Acute and General Medicine. The posts will start in August 2022 for 6 months. Candidates require excellent skills in active decision-making, in practical procedures and the liaison with diagnostic and other specialist departments to achieve the best and timely provision of care. The successful applicants will be based on one of the following Medical Specialties:
- Acute Medicine
- Gastroenterology / Hepatology
- Respiratory Medicine
- Endocrinology
- Senior Health
The post holders will all participate in an on call rota 1 in 6.
The posts offer an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to pursue a career in Medicine, either with a view to apply for IMT or ACCS training in the future. There will be ample opportunities to increase your clinical experience, as well as opportunities to further develop other interests, for instance in teaching both undergraduates and other health professionals, such as Physician Associate Students. The successful candidates will also be encouraged to actively participate in Audit and Quality Improvement.
Although not yet formally recognised for training, this position provides ample experience in all aspects of the service and the post holders are actively encouraged to attend the training sessions provided and actively participate in professional development.
Main duties of the job
- The Clinical fellows will be required to perform clinical work on the Medical Wards and the Acute Medicine Unit, both as the first doctor to see patients with the range of problems which present to a busy urban emergency department, and supervising the work of more junior staff, as well as participating in Medicine Clinics and the management of patients in an ambulatory setting.
- The appointees will work closely with the general medical and the multidisciplinary team
- The post holders will be expected to contribute to the performance of administrative duties on the ward - such as checking radiology reports and microbiology results - and to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service, as required.
- Leadership Role - will be responsible for working with the Clinical Lead to develop the service, for instance in developing Ambulatory Care.
- Clinical Governance - will work closely with our Clinical Governance Lead to run our Departmental Morbidity and Mortality Meetings, review DATIX and Serious Incidents, identify areas of service which need improvement
- Teaching - will be responsible for organising our Postgraduate Teaching Programme. There will be an opportunity for formal development, eg. PGCert
