To provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention for clients with complex acquired speech, language and swallowing difficulties? To autonomously manage a caseload of adults with complex speech, language or swallowing difficulties? To act as specialist in neuro rehabilitation and act as a resource and support for other therapists and professionals working with adults who have acquired speech, language or swallowing disorders? To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary and SLT teams providing an effective and efficient service, liaising with internal and external agencies. He/she will provide timely and targeted individualised management, treatment for adults, involving relatives and carers and providing appropriate recommendations and training to professionals from other agencies and other professions? To participate in continuing professional development and other activities to maintain evidence based best practice. He/she will also provide student placements, training opportunities and clinical support for assistants, and provide observation opportunities for other professionals? To devise and provide training, advice to carers and multi-agency staff and colleagues in the field of acquired speech, language and swallowing disorders. Main duties of the job
We are seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6) to work within a well established and respected, adult multi-disciplinary community neuro team.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of adults and older people with a variety of acquired neurological conditions living in the community, including Early Supported Discharge for stroke patients. There are opportunities to see clients at St John's Therapy Centre and in other community settings. There is a strong emphasis on multi-disciplinary working including service development and team learning. The MD team includes occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, dietitian, clinical neuropsychologist, clinical nurse specialist, neuronavigator, administrative, psychology and rehabilitation assistants.
As an experienced therapist, the post holder will have skills in managing a caseload of clients with complex neurological needs, including dysphasia and dysphagia management. Training and experience in LSVT and VF would be an advantage, but not essential.
The post holder will have a key role in the development of the Speech and Language service and other projects within the multi-disciplinary team.
As this is a community post, it would be advantageous that you are a car owner/driver or a cyclist.
