Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for a senior clinic fellow in Maxillofacial Surgery in the areas of:

1) Trauma/Skull base & TMJ surgery

2) Skin surgery/aesthetic/deformity

One role to start in May 2022 and the other to start in September 2022 - If you are invited to interview, we will discuss your choice of start date at that point.

They are required to work within the regional South-West London Maxillofacial Surgery Network centred around the department at St George's Hospital.

The unit forms the hub of a network of spokes comprising Ashford & St Peter's, Epsom & St Helier, Kingston and Croydon University Hospitals. The fellows are expected to provide a service in line with the subspecialty themes of the fellowships. This includes outpatient clinics, outpatient and inpatient operating lists, MDT meetings, as well as on call commitment. The on call is one in 1:5 with prospective cover but may go to a 1:6 or 7, covering the middle grade tier.

There will also be opportunities in the timetable for the fellows to attend private hospital clinics and operating lists.

Main duties of the job

The fellow will be expected to attend clinics, MDTs and operating lists allied to the theme of the fellowship. There will be scope for some flexibility in the timetable as the fellow will be supernumerary in some aspects of the working week. The fellow will be encouraged to attend lists/clinics at other spoke hospitals in order to gain further experience, especially in the field of surgical dermatology. The fellow will also have some timetabled sessions to observe procedures at private hospitals, especially in the fields of cosmetic and oculo-plastic surgery.

Duties and Responsibilities - The appointee will be expected to work in close collaboration with all the staff in the Maxillofacial Department and the timetable may be changed on discussion with the consultants and Care Group Leader. The post holder will also be expected to take part in local and regional Audit and Clinical Governance, in addition to contributing to the organisation and supervision of junior medical staff.

As this a Fellow position, the appointee is expected to have completed the specialist training in their respective country and must provide evidence of attainment of their specialist qualification (for example (FRACDS (OMFS). The appointee must also be able to work in the UK (ie possession of HSMP or EU residency status). The appointee should have at least full medical plus or minus dental registration with the GMC and GDC respectively.

About us

The Maxillofacial Department consists of 5 surgeries, and a pre-assessment room. Patients are accepted for treatment by referral from both medical and dental practitioners and also from other departments within the hospital. Many medically compromised adults and children are managed within the Department.
