In addition to the above the post holder will be expected to:

• To take an active part in the management and administration of trauma surgery.
• To take a leading role in clinical governance within the department.
• To take a leading role in the tuition of medical students from St Georges University of London.
• An interest in research would be strongly supported.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC Registration
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights
• An appropriate higher 'General Surgery' surgical qualification e.g. FRCS(Gen) or equivalent

Desirable

• oJAG accreditation in upper GI endoscopy
• oHigher degree (MD, PhD, etc)
• oPost CCT fellowship

Clinical Experience

Essential

• oExperience and training in General and Emergency surgery
• oAbility to manage a range of emergency and elective general surgical conditions
• Training in advanced laparoscopic surgery
• NHS experience

Desirable

• Interest in emergency surgery
• Independent practice in laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal surgery

Teaching Experience

Essential

• oExperience of supervising juniors
• oAbility to teach clinical and operative skills
• Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems

Desirable

• oPostgraduate teaching qualification
• oExperience in delivering surgical skills courses
• oExperience in co-ordination and delivery of postgraduate surgical training
• oExperience in co-ordination and delivery of undergraduate surgical training

Clinical audit

Essential

• oAbility to manage & lead surgical firm
• Involvement in audit programmes

Desirable

• oEngagement with NELA

Research Experience

Essential

• oAbility to manage & lead research projects

Desirable

• oTrack record of publications in peer reviewed journals
• oAbility to supervise postgraduate research

Management and Adminstrative experience

• oAbility to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
