This is an exciting opportunity for a clinically qualified individual to join the growing and dynamic neurology department at the St George's University Hospitals. This is a post in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and neuro-otology. St George's Hospital is a Major Trauma Centre serving the SW London and Surrey Trauma Network.
The TBI department at St George's is a thriving and forward-thinking group, working closely with the trauma team, neurosurgery team and NITU, to provide rapid input into the care of patients presenting acutely with TBI. There are dedicated in-patient beds on the Neurology ward (four acute TBI beds and six level one neurorehabilitation beds). Other crucial relationships are with other Neurology sub-specialties, Stroke, Neurosciences ICU and Ophthalmology.
Main duties of the job
We have been leading the way in development of TBI services in London. The TBI service is co- led by a Consultant Neurologist (Dr Colette Griffin) and a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist (Dr Akshay Nair), in addition to Dr Etienne Laverse (Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in sports TBI), Dr Ivy Ong (Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in post-traumatic headache syndromes) and Dr Camilla Clark (Clinical Academic with a specialist interest in functional cognition post TBI). This dynamic group have also developed a growing TBI research portfolio in addition to the fully comprehensive clinical service.
There is also a highly specialist multi-disciplinary team working within the service, consisting of a Clinical Neuropsychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Social Worker, in addition to a Dietician and a Discharge Coordinator.
The postholder will be responsible for developing a neuro-otology MDT service including a specialist clinic, reviewing neuro-otology ward referrals and a weekly neuro-otology MDT.
The postholder be an integral part of the undergraduate neurology teaching programme, and will lead the further development of this very active teaching programme.
The postholder will contribute to the Neurology Hospitalist service at St George's Hospital.
