Job summary

  • To contribute to the implementation of the new 'Maternal Mental Health Services/MMHS'. MMHS are a joint maternity and perinatal mental health transformation objective as part of The NHS Long Term Plan.
  • To provide professional leadership within MMHS and to work closely with existingspecialist midwives (e.g., PMH, bereavement, PMAs) and the wider maternity system toensure women and birthing people in Croydon University Hospital have access to high quality maternity care that is sensitive to issues relating to trauma and loss.
  • To contribute to providing staff support, training and consultation within maternity; to increase awareness about the impact of trauma and loss on women's mental health and maternity experience and to promote the delivery of trauma informed care.
  • To ensure the co-production of MMHS with service users and local communities and to be committed to working to reduce health inequalities.
  • To co-ordinate practice for multiple clinical areas across Croydon University Hospital.
  • To be responsible for representing MMHS within the Local Maternity System (LMNS), ensuring that service developments and delivery are aligned and integrated with wider maternity transformations.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

  • To maintain clinical credibility by acting regularly as a clinical practitioner in own area of expertise.
  • To be highly visible, accessible and approachable to staff, patients and the public to ensure that open and honest communication channels are created and sustained.
  • To maintain an overview of the standards of care being delivered across defined clinical areas and instigate remedial action if necessary.
  • To work with the MMHS team, department midwifery staff and allied health professionals in assessing the clinical skills required to deliver a safe and high-quality service, identifying any deficits in this and developing programmes to address these issues.
  • To act as a resource for junior staff. To guide and support developmental projects and advise on further resources inside and outside the Trust as appropriate.
  • To provide advice as required both internally and externally.
  • To act as a coach/ mentor for relevant members of staff.
  • To lead on mental health initiatives in maternity ensuring that all staff within the ICS/LMNS comply with Trust and NHS policies.

Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after for people of all ages across Croydon and our Children's Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.
