Maternity Assistant - Band 2

We have exciting opportunities for Band 2 Maternity Assistant to join our Maternity team working across Maternity Triage, Labour Ward, Obstetric Theatres, Birth Centre and our Antenatal and Postnatal Wards at Croydon University Hospital. This is a key role within the department providing support and assistance to women and their families, midwives in all areas of the service.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about providing high quality care for women, and who demonstrate our Trust values at all times. We are looking for organised, self-motivated candidates who can support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care. This is an excellent role to develop existing experience and gain additional knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

Maternity Assistants (MA) support midwives in caring for women and their babies through the vital stages of pregnancy, childbirth and the first few days of birth. MAs complement the role of the midwife in the provision of care and support to women and their families' by undertaking non midwifery specific tasks. MAs can perform basic observations, provide basic care, maintain a safe and pleasant environment, give simple advice and support, document care given and undertake clerical tasks under supervision of a midwife
