Job summary
The post holder will be a Registered Nurse and CASE accredited Gynaecology Sonographer, who will take responsibility for running independent clinics for women referred with suspected gynaecological cancer. The post holder will be experienced in sonography and physical examination including speculum examination.
The post holder will promote the philosophy of high quality, women-centred care whilst acting as a role model for expert nursing practice across the speciality and Trust. Providing clinical nursing advice, education and leadership within the speciality, the post holder will act as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge for patients, carers and healthcare professionals. They will work within the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of optimal care throughout all aspects of the patient's care pathway and in all clinical settings.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake independent and comprehensive clinical assessments of patients referred to gynaecology, demonstrating extensive specialist knowledge of a wide-range of presentations in patients of all ages.
- Undertake gynaecological ultrasound investigation, in line with local and national ultrasound guidelines and procedures, producing accurate reports in a timely manner.
- Actively participate in the management of patients on the gynaecological cancers and other gynae pathway attending MDTs and other relevant fora.
- To professionally take responsibility to ensure a high standard of clinical care and patient welfare for all patients.
- To accept clinical responsibility for designated caseloads of patients in working area, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regards to clinical priorities and use of time.
- To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have ability to work within the legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent for treatment (including intimate examinations such as transvaginal scan).
- Make complex diagnostic decisions based on clinical examination and investigations, communicating complex concepts to patients and their families in an effective and appropriate way.
