Neonatal Clinical Governance and Risk Nurse

Job summary

Due to investment in our service we are looking for an experienced, motivated, innovative, dynamic and friendly Nurse to join our expert team of clinical staff in the capacity of a Governance and Risk Nurse. You should be keen to be part of a forward looking team that is not afraid of change that focuses on quality of care and an improvement to the family's journey in neonates.

Main duties of the job

  1. The post holder will demonstrate visible accessible leadership, support the senior neonatal nursing team to ensure clinical governance is embedded within the Neonatal unit
  2. Develop and implement policies and procedures related to neonatal patient care in collaboration with the medical and nursing team
  3. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards of care, including those related to patient safety and infection control
  4. To work closely with the senior nursing team to improve areas of performance, communicating the need for change and devising a plan of how this is to be.
  5. Monitoring and analysing quality metrics related to patient care, such as patient outcomes, length of stay, and readmission rates, NNAP data and developing strategies to improve performance
  6. The post holder will support the service to improve Friends and Family Surveys and Staff Surveys
  7. To understand and be able to explain performance targets in an understandable way to staff
  8. To lead and support others whilst undertaking Serious Incident Reviews and Root Cause Analysis, producing reports and action plans for the Neonatal Senior Management Team (NMST) meetings
  9. Attend monthly Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) meetings, NMST meetings, Weekly SI, and Perinatal meetings. monthly Neonatal and Paediatric Governance meetings and any other network clinical governance meetings

Qualification

Essential

  • degree in Nursing/Midwifery or Children's nursing
  • Recognised qualification in neonatal intensive care.
  • Experience as senior neonatal nurse at Band 6 or higher.
  • Experience of writing/reviewing policies and procedures, presenting reports and action plans.
  • Experience of hospital IT systems
  • Demonstrates knowledge of value & use of research findings.

Desirable

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Experience of working in a training capacity

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrate understanding of NHS Performance Targets and Local KPI's.
  • Good understanding of Trust policies

Desirable

  • Able to identify an appropriate skill mix to optimise the effectiveness of the service and ensure the safety of the unit.

Skills and abilities

  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel and Access
  • Able to transfer knowledge effectively to others and share good practice
