Job summary

The Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team provides co-ordination and case management of children with highly complex and unstable long-term conditions in partnership with health, education and social care organisations.

The aim of the service is to provide a dedicated specialist children's nurse to promote standards of excellence and manage the clinical risk of complex, unstable and vulnerable children in the community within the context of family centred care thereby reducing the need for secondary care interventions.

Working alongside the Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Team the Special School Nursing Service, provides nursing care, co-ordination and case management for children with acute, highly complex and unstable long-term conditions, in partnership with health, education and social care organisations. The service facilitates children and young people with healthcare needs, between the ages of 2 and 19 years of age, to access the education curriculum. The Band 5 staff nurse will provide nursing care to children and young people with complex medical needs and learning disabilities will work clinically in the school setting to support CYP with complex health needs access education.

Main duties of the job

Paediatric Neurodisability Staff Nurse- Special School Nursing Team

Term time only- Mon-Fri 08.00- 16.00 (potential FT / annualised hours available if required)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 nurse to join Croydon's Tulip- Paediatric Neurodisability Nursing Service as part of the Special School Nursing Team. The service supports children 0-25 with disabilities and complex health needs in community and acute services.

This post will be based in St Giles School in South Croydon alongside a large skill mixed team of Nurses and HCAs. The post holder will undertake daily planned and unplanned healthcare interventions which cannot be delegated to school staff. St Giles School has 110 children with complex disabilities and health needs aged 2-19. The post will involve, administration of enteral feeds, including jejunostomy, gastrostomy and NG feeding. Medication administration through a variety of routes, management of seizures, airway management including chest physiotherapy, suctioning and tracheostomy care. Training and development will be available as part of the orientation programs focusing on specific disabilities alongside clinical skills.
