Job summary
The post holder will be an identifiable senior clinical staff member, and team leader. They will have significant clinical experience, provide sound clinical expertise to their team, and coordinate and deliver high quality care.
They will be a professional role model for expert clinical care, and lead on specific projects / management functions as delegated by the Lead Nurse. They will role model the identified Trust values at all times. They will be responsible for recruitment and retention in relation to the new critical care unit opening in 2023 as well as staff wellbeing after the new unit opening the post holder will lead a team of staff. Where appropriate provide support and leadership to, junior sisters/charge nurses, junior registered nurses including students, HCAs and colleagues from other disciplines
They will be activity involved in Unit and Trust activities and be aware of significant changes and developments in critical care. The post holder will be accountable for the operational management of the unit on a day by day basis ensuring a safe, effective quality service is delivered to patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
Senior Sister/ Senior Charge Nurse Band 7 Permanent Post 37.5 hours per week
Our Critical Care Unit is a 15 bed combined ITU/HDU that admits both elective and emergency patients. We are currently in the process of building our new 22 bed critical care unit which will be opening Summer 2023
The role is high profile and requires you to lead and manage a team of nurses with varied skills and experience. The post holder will lead on recruitment, retention and well being for critical care and the new 22 bedded unit, in addition to the clinical elements of the role. You must have energy and enthusiasm to oversee the delivery of safe and effective care, explore new and innovative ways of working to drive forward the Trusts Strategic Priorities and Annual Objectives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high standards of patient care, providing supervision and leadership to a team with a diverse range of experience and skills. You will be expected to be a role model for the team and committed to improving patient outcomes. You will be a strong and effective leader, be able to ensure a smooth patient journey through Critical Care and into the wider Trust, planning and delivering appropriate care for admissions and discharges, quickly identifying clinical problems and taking appropriate actions as well as deputising for the Shead of Nursing and other colleagues in their absence.
