Paediatric Liaison Public Health Practitioner/ Safeguarding Advisor

Job summary

Croydon Health Service (CHS) NHS Trust are looking for an enthusiastic practitioner to join the safeguarding team as paediatric liaison public health practitioner/ safeguarding advisor.

CHS has a think family approach to safeguarding children, within our integrated safeguarding team (maternity, children, adults, and children looked after (CHSIST)). We are seeking a specialist nurse practitioner to provide support to children and families at the interface of acute and community care working 30 hours a week.

The paediatric liaison service is an essential post for Croydon health service to support responsibly and safely. The post holder will be based in the hospital working closely with health and social care agencies, acute and community sectors ensure infants. children and young people and families experience is seamless transition after attendance to Croydon University hospital (acute setting).

The post includes delivery training and offering supervision to wide range of health practitioners. The post holder will also collaborate closely with the team of safeguarding advisors to support the team with their statutory responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

Develop standards and protocols for liaison and information sharing so that this function is carried out safely and consistently by staff in emergency department while ensuring good record keeping standards in the emergency department.

Identify and implement consultation with colleagues any systems which may improve the hospital contribution to safeguarding children.Participate in multi-agency safeguarding meetings both within the hospital, pan health and inter agency.

To continue to develop paediatric liaison within the Paediatric and Adult Emergency Department (16 years old to 18 years old go into adult emergency department) as a key team member working closely with hospital departments, community, local authority and other health and multi-agency service.

Forge close working links with adult emergency department ensuring systems are in place for recognition and referral/liaison where parents or carers are seen with features which indicate they could pose a risk to children in their care.

Identify practices and learning needs for the front-line staff and provide learning programme to address these. Quality and Performance

1.Ensure timely and accurate information analysis and reporting to Named Professional Safeguarding Children on agreed areas of work.

3.The post holder is expected to contribute to the process of conducting Serious Case Reviews and Internal Management Reviews for the Trust with the support of the named nurses.

4.To support the Named Professionals in contributing to the CHSIST governance processes in relation to safeguarding children.

5.To attend weekly Trust Safeguarding MDT meetings.

6.To be the lead safeguarding professional within specified services within CHS as agreed with the Named Professionals.

7.To provide practitioners with supportive advice for safeguarding concerns

Communication and Relationship Skills

Establish and maintain clear systems of communication with the Named Nurses for Safeguarding Children, MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub) public health nurses, Acute services, line managers within CHSIST.

Effectively communicate sensitive and confidential information in line with current legislation and Trust policy/guidelines.

Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.

Provide advice and guidance to practitioners and partner agencies on sensitive issues in respect of adult safeguarding/protection.

Ability to manage challenging situations and behaviours.

Establish and maintain clear systems of communication with Named Nurses/professionals for Safeguarding and service line managers, in order that staff are adequately.

Supported to ensure that the organisation meets its statutory obligations to safeguard and protect children at risk.

Storage of records in line with the Data Protection Act, the Caldicott Guardianship, and professional standards.

Liaise with all external agencies, ensuring effective communication across the acute / community interface.
