Job summary
This is a fixed term Consultant Cardiologist (Heart Failure and Cardiac MRI) position within the Cardiology Department, based at Croydon University Hospital. The successful applicant will join a dynamic team.
The appointee is expected to provide a General Adult Cardiology and sub-specialist Heart Failure service; this includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department and the patient flow across the Directorate.
Please note this position requires the successful candidate to have a right to work in the UK, full GMC registration with a License to Practise prior to starting.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties:
- To provide a General Adult Cardiology and sub-specialist Heart Failure service; this includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department and the patient flow across the Directorate.
- To participate in a 1:8 rota as the Duty Cardiologist of the week.
- To support, where skills permit, consultant cardiologist colleagues in the provision of other cardiology services, such as non-invasive Imaging, Cardiac Pacing and diagnostic Cardiac Catheterisations.
- To contribute to the delivery of advice and education for local GPs.
- To lead and deliver a modern acute and chronic heart failure service.
- To carry out / report CMR studies at King's College London (KCL) 1 day a week. If the post holder has any further interests in Imaging such as CT or Echo these can also be facilitated at CUH.

Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC registration
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
- CMR Level 3 accreditation
Desirable
- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
- EACVI or SCMR Level 3 accreditation in Cardiovascular MRI
- British Society of Echocardiography accreditation for transthoracic echocardiography (or equivalent)
- Membership of the British Society for Heart Failure
Training & Experience
Essential
- Comprehensive training on a recognised SpR programme in Cardiology (or equivalent)
- High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the management of heart failure
- Ability to independently undertake all required cardiology on-call activity e.g. temporary pacing wire insertion

- Comprehensive training in a recognised Heart Failure subspecialty training programme
- Evidence of contribution to development of Heart Failure services
