Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse School Nursing - 1 year Fixed Term

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust are excited to offer the opportunity to study whilst earning for the qualification of SCPHN School Nurse (two places available). Croydon is currently recruiting for SCPHN school nurse students for the programme commencing in January 2025 and is 52 weeks in duration at University of Greenwich.

This is a fully funded training opportunity, to qualify as a registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) and is open to all registered qualified Nurses. You will be given a fixed term one-year full-time contract to undertake a BSc/PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse course (School Nursing), find attached Job Description and Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the setting of caseload priorities in conjunction with other members of the Team, that reflects individual rights, equality, and diversity.

  • To demonstrate the skills required by identifying own learning needs in line with the curriculum and practice experience. Undertaking activities to seek out and coordinate experiences to meet these learning needs in collaboration with the Institute of Higher Education and the Practice assessor/supervisor
  • The fundamental responsibilities of the post holder are to attain the academic credentials and the clinical skills required to practice as a NMC registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse on a defined pathway.

These are summarised below:

  • To fulfil the requirements of the Specialist Community Practitioner programme by attending university course dates and practice placement days in accordance with the Trust and University regulations
  • To work with the Specialist Community Practice assessor/supervisor to develop the skills and competencies required to achieve NMC Registration Standards for Specialist Community Practice

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC Registration for nursing and midwifery
  • Dip HE (or above) qualification equivalent to 120 credits at level 5 (of the Higher Education Credit Framework for England) or evidence of previous education and learning to this level.
  • Is up to date and fit to practice safely
  • ALL sections of application form completed FULLY according to written guidelines
  • Literacy and Numeracy at the level of the National Qualifications Framework at level 1-2 for Numeracy (equivalent of GCSE) and 3-4 for Literacy (equivalent of A level).

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the Public Health role of contemporary health visiting & working in community settings
  • Knowledge of local and national policies which influence the provision of health visiting
  • Current knowledge of safeguarding issues

  • Evidence of involvement in the management of difficult situations and conflict resolution
