About us

The Trust provides a full range of major acute services to the population of the Borough of Croydon and neighbouring areas. Croydon is London's largest Borough with a population of approximately 400,000 that is transient, relatively young, with high level of ethnic diversity. Services are delivered across two sites - Croydon University Hospital (CUH) site is a 450-bed acute hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital offers outpatient services.

The CUH site is currently undergoing major redevelopment including a £21million A&E department refurbishment opened in 2018 and a £7million Rainbow Children's Unit opened in 2022.

The site was reconfigured following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to include the Croydon Elective Centre, which operates as a "hospital within a hospital" model. A further £15million Critical Care Unit refurbishment is currently underway. The Trust performs more than 25,000 procedures and undertakes 350,000 outpatient appointments annually. Over 200,000 people attended our urgent and emergency care services during 2021/22.
