Job summary
Croydon University Hospital (CUH) plans to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Urology. This post is a middle-grade fixed term position for an initial period of 12 months. This term can be extended. There is on-call activity at middle-grade level.
The candidate will be expected to integrate within and work alongside the team of existing consultants in the Urology department, as well as work within multidisciplinary teams including healthcare professionals. The candidate will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of day-to-day Urology surgery services. These include daily ward rounds, review of inpatient referrals, outpatient clinics and theatre lists under the supervision of the Urology Surgery consultants.
This post is not an approved postgraduate training programme under the auspices of Health Education England (HEE). However, post-holders can be supported with aspirations for both CESR qualification and FRCS examination on request.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of day-to-day Urology services under the supervision of the Urology Surgery consultants. Clinical activities will include daily ward rounds, review of inpatient referrals, outpatient clinics and theatre lists.
There is on-call activity at middle-grade level. The rota is a 1:8 rota with non-resident responsibilities out-of-hours.
About us
The Trust provides a full range of major acute services to the population of the Borough of Croydon and neighbouring areas. Croydon is London's largest Borough with a population of approximately 400,000 that is transient, relatively young, with high level of ethnic diversity. Services are delivered across two sites - Croydon University Hospital (CUH) site is a 450-bed acute hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital offers outpatient services.
The CUH site is currently undergoing major redevelopment including a £21million A&E department refurbishment opened in 2018 and a £7million Rainbow Children's Unit opened in 2022.
The site was reconfigured following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to include the Croydon Elective Centre, which operates as a "hospital within a hospital" model. A further £15million Critical Care Unit refurbishment is currently underway. The Trust performs more than 25,000 procedures and undertakes 350,000 outpatient appointments annually. Over 200,000 people attended our urgent and emergency care services during 2021/22.
