The post lies within the acute Paediatric Department at Croydon University Hospital to enable the department to continue to deliver high quality, and responsive care with attending weeks in the paediatric emergency department and non-attending weeks to cover outpatient clinics including a new paediatric asthma service. General paediatrics on call (including the level 2 neonatal unit) is a requirement of the post.

Main duties of the job

The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing the paediatric department. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active rolein the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. We meet the London quality standards for Paediatric Care, by delivering a sustainable consultant led service. The post holder will cover the PED during their 'PED' attending weeks rotating on a five week cycle. During the PED attending week the post holder will do a rapid access clinic (RAC) every morning, followed by providing telephone advice for GPs and covering PED. Outpatient clinics, general paediatric clinic, and sub-speciality clinic (dependent on appointee interest), will be part of the timetable during non-PED attending weeks. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. There would be a need to cover the neonatal unit during out of hours evening and weekends
