Applications are invited for Specialty Doctors in Restorative Dentistry to join the vibrant Restorative Dentistry team at Croydon University.
Croydon University Hospital has recently invested in a brand new clinical area including modern surgeries and equipment, and a brand new PGMC phantom head teaching room through Health Education England. There is one full time and one part time consultant in post striving to establish national and international reputation for clinical excellence and innovation. Informal training and supervision are available as required.
The posts are available part time and would, ideally, suit dentists looking for restorative clinical, teaching and managerial hospital experience. The appointees will be expected to contribute to providing clinical and managerial service in their monospecialty.
The Department of Restorative Dentistry forms part of the Trust's Cancer and Surgical Directorate, which provides a comprehensive range of multidisciplinary clinical services in the major dental specialities.

Main duties of the job
Are you the person we are looking for to complete our team?
Currently, the department has 3 Consultant led specialties; Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery incorporating Oral Surgery. There is a further Consultant in PaediatricDentistry post in development. Each department provides an advice and treatment service to the local GDPs, specialists and the other hospital departments.The unit is actively involved in teaching and training in all three disciplines. This is mainly at DentalFoundation, Specialty Registrar and Post-CCST levels, but there are a number of Specialty Doctorsworking in the unit, and the department has close links with primary care postgraduate training.

These are replacement posts following retirement of an Associate Specialist and reduction in days by Specialty Doctors. The remit of the postholders will be to provide endodontic, periodontic and prosthodontic service delivery including assessing new patients and undertaking treatment. They may be required to provide cover for colleagues.
In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
The job plan is anticipated to contain six Programmed Activities in total per week (four days) all of which will be carried out on the Croydon Site and does not include on-call commitments.
The key focus of the duties will be:
- Treatment of patients involving a range of care with varying complexity including multidisciplinary involvement in an outpatient setting under local anaesthesia.
- Attendance at joint clinics and provision of care to patients taken from these clinics
- He/she will also be encouraged and expected to take part in audit at both Departmental and Hospital level.
- Participate in training when and if appropriate
