TRUST REGISTRAR IN GENERAL SURGERY
The Department of General Surgery at Croydon University Hospital is a strong department with an excellent track record for education and training. Croydon is one of only 2 Trusts in London hosting the Improving Surgical Training pilot. This post is a NTN post which has not been filled for 6 months.
This post supports the delivery of the London Emergency Standards and complements the separation of elective and emergency workloads. The General Surgery Department comprises of 10 Consultants and 15 registrars with a full SHO and foundation staff rota.
Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust provides a broad range of elective and emergency services to a population of 337,000, including General/Laparoscopic Surgery, Breast Surgery, Endocrine, Vascular, Paediatric, Colorectal, Urological, Orthopaedic, ENT, Dental Surgery and Gynaecology.
The applicants require emergency and elective general surgery experience.

Main duties of the job
- To provide general, endocrine and vascular surgical support in both emergency and elective services.
- General Surgery, Endocrine and Vascular Surgery service and this includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.
- Responsible for covering colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
- Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
- Responsible for out-patient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed by Croydon Health Services
- To contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust's R&D framework.
- To contribute to the 4.
- To take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Trusts Objectives. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with both internal and external agencies.
