Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is launching a new clinical model across our Acute Medicine and Acute Frailty services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in November 2025. We are seeking motivated and compassionate nurses to join our team at the heart of this transformation.

The new model introduces four specialist units designed to deliver high-quality, efficient and patient-centred care. Staff will have the opportunity to work across all four areas, supporting development and providing broad clinical experience. These include:

  • A dedicated Acute Assessment Unit (AAU)

  • An enhanced Acute Medical Unit (AMU)

  • A Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit

  • An Acute Frailty Unit (AFU)

Main duties of the job

To maintain primary responsibility for ensuring the Division provides a progressive learning environment for all grades of nursing staff. The post holder will support and coordinate the development of Registered Nurses, Nursing Associates Health Care Support Workers and both pre- and post-registration nursing students by co-ordinating educational activities and assessments of learning within the department.

To be involved in the Corporate agenda participating in practice and nursing development within their Division and liaising with the Practice Development Lead Nurse as appropriate.

The post holder will actively promote and contribute to inter-professional learning activities across the Division and Trust wide and be an effective role model for best practice nursing. The post holder will provide educational and clinical support for the nurses in the clinical area for 80% of their working time

  • 2 years of Band 6 acute medical care experience
  • Significant and proven clinical and management skills within a relevant clinical field
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary working.
  • Previous involvement in quality initiatives.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring and assessment.

Desirable

  • Experience of audit/QI Project
  • Experience of interprofessional teaching and learning in the clinical environment including undergraduate medical education

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrates evidence of developing innovative practice and of being proactive in managing change
  • Awareness of current developments in own clinical specialty
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Computer literate with good skills using the Microsoft packages
  • Presentation skills
  • Research awareness and demonstrates how this relates to practice 2
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

  • A degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • A clinical expert either through formal qualification (diploma/degree) and/or extensive clinical experience pertinent to the area.
