Job summary

An exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife in a senior leadership role has arisen on the Ante/postnatal ward at University Hospital Lewisham. If you are enthusiastic, motivated and have a vision for inpatient maternity services then you are the right person to consider joining the senior midwifery management team as Maternity Matron for Inpatients (maternity ward) and the Day Assessment Unit services at University Hospital Lewisham, which is part of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

If you are a strong clinical leader who maintains high visibility, is accessible to women, their families and colleagues and has substantial experience of managing a ward or team (at Band 7 level or above), then this is your next career move. You will also possess a broad range of midwifery experience, have excellent communication and networking skills, and have the ability to work under pressure, keep to deadlines and adapt quickly whilst taking your team with you; even during a pandemic.

You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and have a passion for the continuous development and wellbeing of your staff and for co-producing maternity services with women and our Maternity Voices Partnership colleagues. You understand the importance of multidisciplinary team working and are able to influence and sustain high care standards, safety and quality within the unit.

This is a five day a week post, with an on-call commitment and some weekend working.

Main duties of the job

In this role, the successful applicant will:

Be operationally and professionally accountable for the standard of care delivery within the Maternity Ward (ante- and postnatal) and the Day Assessment Unit, as well as supporting effective patient flow across all maternity areas within the hospital based services.

Work closely, collaboratively and in support of the Matrons for Delivery Suite and Birth Centre & Community Services

Ensure clinical care and effectiveness is maintained to a high standard, in line with local, regional and national policies

Develop and monitor key performance indicators, demonstrating that the care provided to women and families is safe, evidence-based and of a high quality

Ensure all midwifery staff practice within the NMC regulatory framework and professional regulations are adhered to in the workplace whilst supporting the different needs of individual staff

Ensure that multi-disciplinary and multi-professional working is achieved to its maximum benefit and supports holistic care of women and their babies

Work collaboratively with the MVP to ensure that women's' are listened to and their experiences are positive

You will be supported to be high-performing within your role and to achieve personal and professional growth by other members of the senior management team, and the Divisional Triumvirate.
