Job summary
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust are seeking a dynamic colleague to join our Diabetes and Endocrinology team at University Hospital Lewisham. We are a team of 5 full time consultants who work in diabetes and endocrinology, in addition to our GIM/acute medicine commitment.
We are keen on developing our colleague to grow and develop in a sub-speciality of their choice.
We also run an insulin pump and diabetes technology clinics and MDT, transition diabetes clinics, diabetes foot service, antenatal diabetes service, community diabetes services and general endocrine clinics.
The on-call commitment is 1 in 13. See attached job description for more details.
Main duties of the job
The prime responsibility is to contribute to the provision and development of Diabetes, Endocrine and General Medicine services undertaken by the Trust.
The key duties of the job include:
Participation in the acute general medical take, including weekends. consultant cover on a general medical ward (Laurel Ward).
Contribute to rapid reviews of in-patients with Diabetes and Endocrine problems.
Provide post-graduate, undergraduate and AHP teaching and supervision.
Provide services for type 1 diabetes, including pump and CGM, play a key role in diabetes technology MDT.
Provide services for endocrinology service.
Participate in providing input into the community diabetes service and do community clinics.
Participate in rota to provide antenatal, bariatric and foot cover when colleagues are on leave.
Contribute and develop young adults service and transition diabetes service.

The job plan will be negotiated between the consultant and the Divisional Director at least annually. A Responsible Officer for Appraisal and Revalidation will be allocated to the post holder, and engagement with these processes will be a requirement of this post.
The exact timetable for this post will be agreed with the post holder following appointment but will necessarily include several fixed clinical commitments. Timetables may be changed as necessary based on the service need and the special interests of the appointee, followingagreement with the Clinical Director and other Consultant staff.
