Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative individual with excellent clinical skills and ED experience to join our nursing team in our busy Paediatric Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.

Main duties of the job

To work collaboratively with the Nursing Development Managers and engage with the Corporate agenda with regards to Practice Development issues.

To work with senior nurses ie ward managers and matrons to ensure that Nursing Development processes are implemented within their clinical areas

To work with the Nursing Development Managers to ensure clinical practice within their Division is compliant with national guidance and standards ie NICE guidance

To be aware of themes and trends arising from clinical incidents and complaints and ensure these form part of the ongoing educational and nursing development programmes within their Division

To engage with the Transformational team with regards to practice development within their Division

To be aware of the quality and performance ie clinical indicators within their Divisions and support senior nurses with the implementation of quality initiatives

To be an active member of service development and improvement

To help support and maintain the Trusts policy on Unified Patient Record Keeping.

To actively participate in quality assurance strategies and audit, including current DH initiatives and performance data.

To manage own time to ensure balance between clinical and administrative activities.

To make an active contribution to clinical governance strategies, particularly in relation to producing and/or reviewing nurse-led clinical guidelines.

To actively participate in maintaining own professional development, identifying own educational and clinical training needs with Line Manager.

To ensure own mandatory training certificates are current.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse Part 8 or Part 15
  • A Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • A clinical expert either through formal qualification (diploma/degree) and/or extensive clinical experience pertinent to the area.
  • Other appropriate post basic qualifications and experience
  • Post-registration teaching/mentorship qualification

Desirable

  • A willingness to work towards the Practice Educator qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of Band 6 acute care
  • Significant and proven clinical and management skills within a relevant clinical field
  • Evidence of effective multi-disciplinary working.
  • Previous involvement in quality initiatives.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring and assessment

Desirable

  • Experience of audit
  • Experience of inter-professional teaching and learning in the clinical environment including undergraduate medical education
