Job summary

Are you looking to looking to do a midwifery degree but struggling to get onto a local university course or do you want to get paid while doing that course? If so, why not join us at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich.

We are looking for highly motivated, caring people to join our midwifery degree apprenticeship based at Greenwich University and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich. If you have a Level 2 in English and Maths and 96 UCAS points at level 3 (equivalent to 3 C's at A-level or equivalent).

You must also have indefinite leave to remain or leave to remain for the duration of the course (3 years) as the apprenticeship scheme is not able to accommodate candidates that do not have the right to study/work in the UK for the duration of the course at the outset of the programme.

Please note that if you have ever started an apprenticeship but not completed it to the endpoint assessment then unfortunately, you are not eligible to apply to join this apprenticeship course.

If you do not have the correct qualifications, you will not be shortlisted.

If successful at shortlisting, you will need to send proof of your certificates prior to interview as without this the university will not be able to admit you. Please ensure you have your certificates easily accessible.

Main duties of the job

To complete a work based pre-registration midwifery apprenticeship programme delivered by an 'Approved Education Institute' (AEI). Maintaining the Standards set out in the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC, 2009) in order to obtain a Registered Midwifery Apprenticeship qualification.

Apprentices will work in a supported learning environment to develop skills, competencies and knowledge, which will assist you to complete your qualification and progress in your career and future employment with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, securing a position as a Registered Midwife.

Apprentices will work in all clinical settings, and receive placements with our acute hospital partners during your training programme. You will acquire clinical skills during your placements and working on non-training days as part of our multi-disciplinary teams within the community. You will acquire clinical skills relevant to the banding at which you are working and deliver independent care to our patients under the supervision of our qualified staff and mentors.

Our supportive education team comprises of a Consultant midwife, Practice Development midwife, a developmental PDM, a CPF and 2 preceptee support midwives (PCSM). We also have a 3rd PCSM that will support both students and new preceptees clinically.

We facilitate care to over 4,000 mothers/birthing people and their babies each year, with a busy obstetric unit, supported by a beautiful, well established, co-aligned Birth Centre.
