Job description

Job responsibilities

The changing demands externally placed upon maternity services over the last five years as a whole has been undeniable and has been shown by changes in practice, service reconfigurations designed to enable the introduction of the recommendations from the Better Births report (NHS England, 2016) and, since December 2020, the immediate and essential actions (IEA) from the Ockenden report (2020).

In response to this external scrutiny and assurance requirement, the introduction of Head of Midwifery for Governance and Quality will enable the service to be more responsive, dynamic and provide an appropriate level of senior resource to work alongside the existing operational midwifery team, to ensure a robust approach to patient safety and competent delivery of the risk, governance and quality agenda both internally and externally.

The Head of Midwifery Governance, Quality and Safety holds an important professional lead role, working both at operational and strategic leave to ensure external and internal quality and safety systems. Providing strong leadership to influence and change the development of governance processes across both maternity services within acute and community setting. It is a key position within the Divisional Management Team, responsible to the Associate Director of Midwifery and accountable to the Director of Midwifery
