This is a permanent appointment for a whole-time post at the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT), Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) site.

Currently the Haematology Department provides BCSH Level 2B care. This post will be based primarily at QEH but deployment at UHL may occur once the new Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust structure has fully developed. The appointee will join two Haematology Specialist Registrars, a Haemato-oncology Core Medical Trainee, a Foundation Year 2 junior doctor and four/five Haematology Consultants.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will, after appropriate training and experience, be expected to: Assess and report blood films and Bone Marrows, Supporting Lab activities. Assist the inpatient and outpatient management of haematology patients. Provide On-Call Cover at a SpR level for Haematology. Perform bone marrow aspirate and trephine biopsy. Conduct Haem-Onc Clinic under supervision. Participate in Departmental Governance & Management. To participate in the General Haematology and Haemato-Oncology out Patient clinics, as required. Participate in Sickle Cell and thrombosis clinics.

The post holder will be responsible for the following:

  1. To participate in the General Haematology and Haemato-Oncology Out Patient clinics, as required. Participate in Sickle Cell Clinics.
  2. To be involved in managing the haematology-oncology patients attending the haematology/oncology day unit if required
  3. To be a clinical point of contact for ward based questions relating to anticoagulation inpatients.
  4. In conjunction with other members of the team be responsible for emergency admission of haematology patients and their day-to-day care on the wards if required
  5. Perform bone marrows or be taught to perform them.

  7. They will be involved in audit undertaken within the department.
