Job summary

Applications are invited for Junior Clinical Fellow - Emergency Medicine at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.This post will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich but will work across site at University Lewisham Hospital. The post is for 6 months in the first instance.

The successful candidates will join an enthusiastic and motivated team, helping to support the future vision and development of the Service.

Applicants MUST HAVE completed a clinical attachment or other medical post in the NHS. Applicants who have recently completed FY2 and would like to spend one year in Emergency medicine can also apply. The hospital is located in the heart of historic South East London.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will join a dynamic emergency workforce treating a wide spectrum of emergency medicine presentations. This is a great opportunity to broaden your experience while working in a very friendly and supportive environment.

There is a strong training culture with protected academic time and regular weekly training incorporating lecture-room teaching and clinical supervision, attendance at relevant clinics and courses, and full immersion simulation sessions. Special focus is given towards passing the College of Emergency Medicine examinations.

  • To provide high quality health care for patients referred to the Department for diagnosis and treatment
  • To participate in educational and governance meetings and meet CPD requirements; to meet appraisal and revalidation requirements
  • To provide cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave.
  • To support the Trusts Clinical Governance Strategy, to participate in clinical audit, and to contribute towards the development of protocols/guidelines within the Trust
  • To participate in departmental meetings and activities.
  • To contribute to the development of the service.
  • To provide continuing training for clinical staff, including anaesthetic trainees, medical students, midwives and nurses

Administration

An administrative session is part of the job plan and the post holder will have responsibilities to maintain good documentation and timely communication of discharge and treatment plans with colleagues in the community.

The successful candidate will work in a EWTD compliant full shift rota covering average of less than 48 hours per week including three hours of paid teaching and study time per week and on duty for approximately 1 in 3 weekends and approximately the equivalent of 4 nights per month. There is no on-call responsibility.

A team of Senior Clinical Decision makers are present on the clinical shop floor to provide support and clinical supervision 24 hours a day. ED Consultants presence, supervision and support are available from 0800 to 2200 every day.
