Job summary

An incredibly exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time band 7 midwife to shape the future of midwifery practice within Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust, based on the UHL site. We are looking to recruit a Clinical Practice Facilitator to work in a job share, who will join and be supported by the established cross site midwifery education team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced midwife who has: a passion for midwifery; a commitment to upholding professional standards and to safeguarding of the profession; is conversant with NMC and Health Education England (HEE) education pathways, plans and strategies; an extensive knowledge of applying evidence based theory to practice and experience of practicing within a variety of areas, to support the development and educational needs of our student midwives.

The successful candidate will be a highly visible role model for clinical education, an expert practitioner and change agent promoting a learning environment in all areas of the midwifery service and provide practical, clinical training and support, to student midwives and their mentors.

Main duties of the job

You will support and improve the learning in clinical practice for both the return to practice midwives and undergraduate students whilst reducing attrition rates.

You will further develop midwives in their role as teachers and assessors, whilst ensuring students are fit for purpose at the point of qualifying.

You will ensure there is a quality learning environment.

We are very proud of our partnership working with our local HEIs who you will work collaboratively with to develop clinical education within the Midwifery Department and Universities. You will be responsible for maintaining this relationship and are the bridge from practice back to theory through supporting the facilitation of skills sessions at the Higher Education Institutes (HEIs); representing the Trust at meetings; involvement with interviews at the HEIs; encouraging and facilitating midwives involvement with HEI activities and regularly liaising with your link lecturers.

About us

This is an exciting time at which to join the team as we are exploring various innovations to further improve and develop the placement experience for both students and mentors and we are keen to hear fresh ideas and to be able to see if we could pilot these in practice. Liaison with Nursing equivalents has strengthened our processes and built good working relationships on which to develop collaborative ideas and pathways.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, is a large Trust facilitating care to over 8,000 mothers and their babies every year. We have two busy obstetric units; one on the Queen Elizabeth, Woolwich site and the other on the Lewisham site and two beautiful co-aligned Birth Centres. Across three boroughs we have 13 community teams facilitating care. All of these areas provide excellent learning opportunities and support to our 150+ pre-registration, post-registration and return to practice midwifery students, who are training at two different HEIs.

Please read the Personal and Job specifications carefully. You should provide evidence in your application of the essential qualities required and why you would be an asset to our Midwifery Team. Invites to interview will be sent to Personal e-mail addresses, please ensure one is provided on your application.

Previous applicants need not apply if you have applied for this post in the last 6 months.
