Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic staff nurses to join the team of highly motivated and committed nursing staff within Diabetes and Endocrinology and Acute Elderly

Main duties of the job

Ward 14 is a 39 bedded specialist medical ward divided in delivering acute care to patients with conditions relating to diabetes , endocrinology and acute frailty. We specialise in diabetes and endocrine management with emphasis on Diabetes ketoacidosis and Hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state management, T1DM and T2DM management, diabetic ulcers and complex wound management.

There is also an excellent preceptorship programme designed to facilitate efficient development of competence, confidence and expertise. Support will be given at a clinical level by 2 ward managers, 4 ward sisters and nurse specialists on the ward. Also, there will be an opportunity to attend the Advance Diabetes course in the University of Greenwich to fully equip you with necessary skills to become future diabetes specialist nurses.

Given the complexity of diabetes and acute elderly care, you will be far more equipped with complex wound assessment and management as well as pressure care assessment, continence care, insulin management, diabetes emergencies and many exciting experiences.

There is also the guidance and support from a Clinical Practice Development nurse whom will provide individualised support in clinical practice/skills for all new nurses to the trust, new nurses to the specialist area and for newly qualified nurses, directing all learning and development needs in agreed plans ensuring needs are met in a timely fashion.
