Job summary

An exciting job opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lymphoedema Practitioner to join our Specialist Oncology Lymphoedema Service at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust - Cancer Centre.

This is a fixed term position - covering a Maternity Leave position.

The dedicated Oncology Lymphoedema Specialist team is based in our Cancer Centre which opened in 2016 bringing most of our ambulatory Cancer services under one roof.

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Allied Healthcare Professional with Lymphoedema experience to join the team to cover a period of Maternity Leave.

The Lymphoedema service provides care for adult cancer patients who have Lymphoedema secondary to their cancer diagnosis or treatment. Our service is an outpatient clinic which also offers supportive care for a small case load of in-patients.

You will be working autonomously within an established team of experts.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work autonomously within a team of other B6/7 specialist lymphoedema practioners, lymphoedema assistants and our admin team.

This is a clinical role where you will be assessing and and diagnosing New Patients who have been referred into the service.

You will be reviewing patients at regular intervals, implementing and evaluating individualised treatment plans and providing Complete Decongestive Treatments where need has been identified.

You will also lead on specialist group sessions: SLD, Exercise and Information Sessions as well as supporting health and wellbeing events for breast and head & neck oncology patients.

Our mission is to support patients in their self management aiming for independent self management and successful discharge from our service. This will involve writing reports to the GP/referrer, setting up repeat order garments and ensuring safe discharge is enabled.

You will look after a small caseload of In-Patients who are under the care of Guy's Hospital.

You will be supporting patients, families and health professionals within GSTT. And be an active contributor to the learning of others.

When required the postholder will deputise for the team lead, or be involved in management tasks such as the development of policies, involvement in quality and audit initiatives and educational programmes for staff and students.
