Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Fellow in Upper GI Surgery

The closing date is 15 February 2026

Job summary

The Gastro-Intestinal (GI) Surgery and Gastroenterology departments have services of national and international reputation. They provide general and specialist services to patients with acute and chronic conditions, both benign and malignant. The specialties are a hybrid of medicine and surgery as they encompass diagnostic and interventional therapeutic care. In addition to serving patients with gastrointestinal conditions, gastroenterology and GI underpin other services (general medicine, emergency medicine, ENT benign and cancer pathways, GP-based care) through in-patient/out-patient review and providing endoscopic procedures.

The department offers a wide range of services to patients with gastroenterological disorders.

The Upper GI Unit is the regional centre for gastro-oesophageal malignancies and specialises in oesophageal and gastric resections. In addition, we provide surgery for all aspects of benign upper gastrointestinal diseases. Many procedures are undertaken laparoscopically / robotically and we also provide a dedicated diagnostic oesophageal laboratory. We offer a pioneering one stop staging package for oesophago-gastric cancer so that patients can have a number of investigations in one visit and leave the hospital with a clear treatment plan.
