1 X 12-month postApplications are invited for a colorectal fellowship at St Thomas' Hospital.
The posts will commence from April 2026 for 12 months. Candidates should have completed their surgical training and have their CCT or equivalent, or be within approximately 6-12 months of obtaining for the CCT or equivalent.St Thomas' has seven colorectal surgeons providing tertiary level care in a variety of benign and colorectal cancer conditions. The St Thomas Colorectal Unit has a strong robotic surgery programme with patients undergoing operations for both cancer and benign disease, including inflammatory bowel disease. There are particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease surgery with about 80 resections performed each year (robotic, open and laparoscopic). The Pelvic floor unit is a tertiary referral unit for the South East of England and with regular MDMs held with the urologists and gynaecologists. The colorectal unit also performs a number of multivisceral resections for advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer in conjunction with the plastics and urological teams.
Main duties of the job
This post is for one year. The postholder will be a full member of the team, partaking in all ward rounds. You will be attached to different consultants for fixed periods to enable continuity between outpatient and inpatient experience. You are also encouraged to attend day surgery. The year will be spit in to two six month posts working within the two robotic colorectal teams. The Schizas/George team undertake robotic colorectal cancer and pelvic floor operations and Adams team perform robotic inflammatory bowel disease and other benign resections.
All working patterns are under continuous review in line with the New Deal regulations.
