Job summary

Sir Reginald Wilson is the private patients ward at the Royal Brompton Hospital. The ward has 28 single rooms and provides care to patients undergoing cardiac/thoracic surgery, invasive cardiology procedures non-invasive cardiology investigations and care provision and respiratory investigations and treatment management.

Candidates will ideally have extensive post registration experience, working in an acute hospital ward environment. The post requires applicants to be able to work under pressure and adapt to an ever changing clinical environment. You should be able to demonstrate excellent clinical nursing and communication skills, demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop new skills and strive to provide the optimum care for patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

Work under supervision of the ward manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development as part of the ward team.

To assist in the continuing professional development and overall performance of learners and healthcare support workers in the clinical area.

To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all junior staff, with the support of their senior colleagues.

The post holder is expected to conduct all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.

To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover according to level of experience for any area specified.

The postholder will be accountable for their nursing practice, adhere to the policies and protocols of the Trust and the NMC, and have a responsibility for their own personal and professional development.
