SENIOR CLINICAL SCIENTIST AI FELLOWSHIP IN HEAD AND NECK RADIOTHERAPY

Guy's Head and Neck Cancer Centre has established a number of innovative projects focusedon transforming care for patients with head and neck cancer, to deliver the right care, at theright time, taking into account individual patient needs.This post is a one-year fixed term post focused on Radiotherapy real world imaging data andAI applications in Head and Neck Oncology. The post-holder will work as an independentscientist within our established research team and take responsibility for the implementationand extension of existing and planned R&D work in the area of Head and Neck Cancer AIapplications in Radiotherapy. The post-holder will maintain and expand Radiotherapy andImaging real world databases of head and neck cancer patients and contribute to thedevelopment of AI tools in HN Radiotherapy, from data curation to clinical deployment, andincluding development. The post would suit a clinical scientist/radiotherapy physicist withrelevant clinical experience in HN Radiotherapy at band 8A or equivalent seeking exposureto imaging (diagnostic/RT) and clinical data analytics and development and applications of AIin Radiotherapy. The post-holder will also assist other members of the research team withrecruitment of patients, project work and analysis as required and will contribute to theintegration of radiotherapy, imaging and clinical data with the tissue bank.

Main duties of the job

o To lead in the development and implementation of Radiotherapy AI tools within theHead and Neck Oncology unit.o To lead the development of new procedures and policies in areas of clinicaldeployment of AI tools and work closely with clinical colleagues, those in Radiotherapyphysics and the Clinical Scientific Computing group to ensure patient safety andpathway efficiency.o To ensure regular quality control measurements are carried out on AI tools prior todeployment as well as setting policies for continued monitoring and subsequentretraining/improvement, thereby closing the AI loop.o To contribute to the maintenance of clinical radiotherapy, diagnostic imaging andclinical data for the Radiotherapy HN database.o To work with clinicians towards the curation of datasets for ML model development,evaluation of AI tools and clinical deployment.o To participate in ongoing Head and Neck research and development.o To review and analyse radiotherapy data of HNC patients.o To work with colleagues from the HN Tissue Bank to ensure data collectionharmonisation and aid monitoring of patient recruitment.

Clinical:The postholder will not have routine clinical duties, other than those directly related to this post.

Training of junior staff:The postholders will take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated to him/her under aegis of the training plan that that postholders has agreed with their supervisingconsultant.

Teaching:The postholders will be expected to contribute as appropriate in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Clinical Governance:All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their auditof their own clinical work as part of their appraisal.

Mutual Obligation to Monitor Hours:There is a contractual obligation on employers to monitor working hours through robust local monitoring arrangements supported by national guidance, and on individual doctors to cooperate with those monitoring arrangements.

European Working Time Directive (EWTD):All posts and working patterns are under constant review in line with EWTD guidelines.

Educational Programme:Neither the London Deanery not the Royal College of Radiologists accredits this post for postgraduate training. However the postholder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational activities e.g. departmental meetings, x-ray meetings, pathology meetings,multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubs etc.

  • Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in a relevant subject. Relevant MSc or higher degree.

Desirable

  • Qualified to act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) under IRMER in the field of radiotherapy.
