Community Staff Nurse - Childhood Immunisation Catch Up

Job summary

Evelina London Children's Community Services is seeking a qualified nurse or health visitor to join the Under-5 Childhood Immunisation Catch-Up Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to public health by supporting a team that plays a vital role in improving childhood immunisation uptake in the community.

The Immunisation Coordinator will handle matters regarding childhood immunisation for children aged 0-5 years. They will be responsible for coordinating, facilitating, and delivering the childhood immunisation programme as part of the catch-up project. They will require working strategically and effectively with commissioners, GP practices, external agencies and other stakeholders.

The post holder will provide a service which includes vaccination, health promotion, support and advice to families with children under 5 years of age. They will deliver immunisation workshops to parents and families at the Children's Centre. The post holder will work as part of the Immunisation team, liaising and collaborating with GP practices, statutory and voluntary agencies as appropriate. They will provide a safe, effective, and high-quality service to clients, using research-based evidence to inform practice within agreed-upon professional standards.

This role will play a key part in the safe delivery of the 0-5 catch-up vaccination project.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a service which includes the following;

To screen clients to ensure their inclusion for immunisation/vaccination programmes meets the required criteria in the Patient Group Direction (PGD).

To follow up on immunisation defaulters and offer opportunistic immunisation at home or children's centres as required.

To promote the vaccination of children under the age of 5 to both large groups and on an individual basis at the children's centres, family homes, and health centres across Lambeth and Southwark as required.

To ensure that the Cold Chain is adhered to throughout the process.

To comply with the medicine's management standards throughout the process, including awareness of contraindications to vaccination.

To support the parent/carer's sensitivity to ensure their inclusion complies with equal opportunities and diversity.

To work in partnership with parents/carers, involving them in decisions about their children's vaccinations.
