Job summary

The Directorate of Women's Services comprises the clinical departments of Maternity (including obstetrics) and Gynaecology at GSTT and the academic department of Women's Health at King's College London. St Thomas's Hospital hosts the largest single site maternity service in London. The state of the art maternity unit includes a midwife led birth unit co-located to a Hospital Birth centre. A 19 bedded antenatal ward and a 38 bed postnatal ward. The Trust delivers 6000 to 7000 women annually, with a 3% homebirth rate. The birth centres are supported by the busiest maternity day assessment unit in London, an obstetric high dependency unit and an active ultrasound and Fetal medicine unit. Most antenatal care occurs in the community.

Main duties of the job

Provide High Quality Care to Patients

The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice

To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.

To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.

To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

To develop and deliver quality improvement within the Directorate

Research, Teaching and Training

Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.

To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director.

To act as educational supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director to ensure external accreditation of training post.

To support multi-disciplinary teaching and training
