Job summary
We are a busy, prestigious, tertiary maternity unit currently delivering approximately 6800 women a year. We care for both low risk women as well as those who have more complex medical needs, or whose babies require intensive surveillance.
We have two dedicated obstetric theatres facilitating both elective and emergency procedures. We are seeking to recruit Band 5, NMC Registered Nurse, to our small friendly theatre team.
If you would like to provide supportive, sensitive care to women and their families within our theatre and obstetricenvironment, we would love to hear from you.
To apply for this position the applicant must have completed the preceptorship period in any nursing area. Therefore this position is not opened for newly qualified nurses. Ideally, some Theatre experience is required.
Main duties of the job
The main duty of the job is to provide clinical support in theatre for women who require surgery for obstetric procedures such as caesarean section and instrumental delivery,
You will maintain excellent aseptic technique and be well versed in providing the necessary instruments in a timely manner.
You will support the team to document accurately the care that has been provided and support the midwives and doctors in their care of the patient during her time in theatre.
You will receive full training if you do not already work in a theatre setting.

Clinical Duties
- Responsible for carrying out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality, current evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations for patients is provided from admission through to discharge.
- Will be responsible for the application of knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
- To act as advocate for patients within the area, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
- To ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
- Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
- Will advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness.
- Recognise the significance of observations made, and use them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care.
- Carry out those activities necessary to conduct a comprehensive assessment of a persons nursing requirements.
