Job summary
To perform clinical physiology duties within the sphere of 'Cardiac Rhythm Management', acting as a physiologist / clinical scientist in this area. The post holder will provide specialist professional direction and expertise in the technical environment of the device implantation and follow-up as well as other aspects of CRM. They will act as a resource within the department to provide expert and specialist advice.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining and developing standards of performance and competency within cardiac rhythm management.
The post-holder will continuously monitor day-to-day service delivery, and suggest/recommend actions for improvement to the Head of Invasive Cardiac Physiology
Main duties of the job
Post holder to perform the duties of a highly specialist independent practitioner, to competently perform a wide range of complex and highly complex specialised cardiac investigations, both invasive and non-invasive; including electrophysiology studies, complex devices implants and follow-up; analysis, interpretation and reporting of results.
Specific areas include, but not restricted to:
- Electrophysiology (diagnostic & therapeutic)
- Implantation and follow-up of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (inc. S-ICD and EV-ICD)
- Implantation and follow-up of Pacemakers including Conduction Tissue Pacing, leadless and wireless devices
- Implantation and follow-up of Cardiac Re-synchronisation Therapy devices
- Implantation and follow up of Implanted Cardiac Monitors
- Follow-up of remote / home monitoring devices
To ensure appropriate and thorough documentation of all procedures on the departmental IT system, (PaceNet and EPIC) to record all aspects of the service.
To act as an expert clinical role model and resource to staff in order to optimise quality of care delivery through facilitation of evidence based/best practice care.
To work clinically up to 90% of their total working hours as the service requires. Clinical work includes on site working across the trust estate as well as home working. The post includes a commitment to a non-residential on call.

These are exciting times in the rhythm management service at Guy's & St. Thomas'. We have one of the most dynamic training programmes at both undergraduate and post graduate levels including the higher specialist scientific programme (HSST). We implant a wide range of device including leadless and wireless system, large CSP pacing cohort , epicardial pacing and EP for a range of arrhythmia including an established VT programme. We can offer the opportunity to develop skills in our paediatric service at Evelina Children's Hospital on the St. Thomas' site.
