Clinical Coding Team Manager

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 06 May 2025

Job summary

Are you ready to lead with purpose in a department redefining what clinical coding means in the NHS?

We are currently recruiting 3 FULL-TIME posts for this vacancy, offering a unique opportunity to be part of our expanding leadership team.

We're on a learning journey. Following the merger of our clinical coding services across Guy's, St Thomas', Royal Brompton and Harefield, we're building a new kind of service--one that's not just about assigning codes, but about improving patient care through our Data Hub, which unites operational and research data in a modern digital landscape.

As a Clinical Coding Team Manager, you'll lead and support a team of coders in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This isn't just a managerial post--it's a chance to help shape the department's future. We're looking for someone operationally strong, and who also sees the bigger picture and dares to challenge the status quo: how coding can drive improvements in patient pathways, service efficiency and outcomes.

You'll be joining a leadership team committed to building a digitally informed workforce--one aligned to our 'Better, Faster, Fairer' patient care strategy.

What makes this role special?

  • We are led by a vision. We offer purpose, support and growth in an ambitious culture.
  • We believe coding is about more than finance. It's about patient care through clarity, accuracy and data.
  • Your voice shapes the journey. You'll work closely with leaders to influence priorities and direction.

If you're ready to lead, support others and help transform coding, this could be your opportunity.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Coding Team Manager, you will lead, support and inspire a team of Clinical Coders in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You'll ensure accurate and timely clinical coding in line with national standards, oversee data quality, and play a key role in internal audits and training. Beyond day-to-day operations, you will work closely with senior leadership to shape coding strategy, support digital transformation, and drive service improvement. This role requires someone who sees the bigger picture--how data and coding impact patient pathways, financial outcomes, and strategic planning.

You'll contribute to a culture of continuous learning, innovation and staff development, helping the department evolve in line with new technologies and a broader, data-led vision for clinical coding.
