Job summary
- This job would suit senior trainees nearing the end of their anaesthetic training or post CCT.
- The post is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and/or paediatric cardiac intensive care.
- This is a combined paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and paediatric intensive care fellowship with equal and simultaneous exposure to both specialties.
- The out of hours on call commitment is to PICU
- This post is for an initial 12-month period with a potential to extend.
- Anaesthesia commitments will include theatre lists in paediatric cardiac surgery, cardiac MRI, TOE, interventional cardiac catheter lab lists and any list involving cardiac patients having non-cardiac surgery including patients with adult congenital heart disease. The fellow is also expected to be available for 6 weekend general paediatric surgical lists over the 12 month period in the new children's day surgery unit (CDSU)
- PICU commitments include: the management of all admitted patients with aim of increased allocation in managing paediatric cardiac surgical and medical patients.
- Participation in the PICU and retrieval service on call rota
- Participation in teaching and clinical governance activity in both specialties is expected.
Main duties of the job
Duties and Responsibilities
- To manage PICU patients under the supervision of the Chief PICU Fellow and Consultant on Duty.
- To attend cardiac anaesthesia lists including cardiac theatre, MRI, interventional cath lab, echo lists etc
- To attend the cardiac surgical planning meetings,
- To take part in a full-shift PICU rota which will include being resident when on the night shift.
- To undertake teaching and guideline development within the fixed rota.
- To participate in the Paediatric Retrieval rota.
- To participate in the training of the Retrieval Nurse Practitioners.
- To undertake a PALS or APLS Course if have not already done so.
