We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organised and enthusiastic paediatric clinical assistant practitioner to join our highly respected and friendly Rehabilitation & Therapies department.

Main duties of the job

Based predominately at the Royal Brompton Hospital but could involve working at the Evelina London Children's Hospital. You will play a vital role in supporting the neurodevelopmental therapy, speech and language therapy and dietetic teams working with infants and children who have cardiorespiratory disease. You will be working with specialist physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and speech and language therapists.

The successful candidate will be working on the children's ward, high dependency unit, intensive care unit and within children's outpatients as part of a supportive, inclusive, caring multidisciplinary team. You will carry out neurodevelopmental therapy programmes, neuro rehabiltation, feeding and communication programmes and nutritional assessments.

You will receive clinical supervision and training to support our patients and families and to become a well-respected member of the team.

This post also has peer and professional support from other clinical assistant practitioners within the Paediatric team and across the wider department/ Trust.

Essential

  • oExperience of working with children
  • oExperience of working in a multi-disciplinary healthcare team
  • oAbility to use own initiative and work within scope of practice
  • oAwareness of stages of child development from 0-5 years

Desirable

  • oExperience of working with children in healthcare setting
  • oExperience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • oPrevious experience in assisting with rehabilitation sessions
  • oPrevious experience of working in a hospital or community therapy setting with patients or clients

Eduction and Qualifications

Essential

  • oCompleted NVQ Level 4
  • o Established experience in a therapy unit/ department.

  • oMakaton training
  • oDiploma or degree

  • Able to carry out moderate physical effort throughout the working day.
  • Physically fit and able to comply with Trust Manual Handling Guidelines.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clinical and routine information and advice to patients and relatives in a clear, understandable and effective manner.
  • Advanced computer skills including experience of data inputting.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical protocols for relevant clinical work and for working in a group environment.
