Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Sleep Medicine

1 Full Time - 40 hours per week (Out of Programme Experience OOPE); Proposed start date:Sept 2025

Fixed Term - 12 months

This is an exciting opportunity to have training in a new and emerging field of paediatrics in the UK, as well as gain a wide experience of education including teaching and training in a multidisciplinary team, as well as developing and contributing to training on a local, regional and national level. The candidate will join a dynamic team and will work across all aspects of paediatric sleep medicine in a tertiary neuroscience department delivering high quality care to children and young people, within a multidisciplinary team (paediatric consultants, sleep physiologists, sleep psychologists and clinical nurse specialist). The post is offered as a Teaching Fellowship in Paediatric Sleep Medicine for a period of up to a year. If you are in training, an application for OOPE will need to be made.

The successful candidate will contribute to clinical assessments of children and young people (with and without disability) forcommon and rare sleep disorders including narcolepsy and circadian rhythm disorders. The job will also include some training on reporting on sleep studies (polysomnography, multiple sleep latency tests, respiratory polygraphy and actigraphy).

Main duties of the job

This post will be of interest to a doctor looking to gain experience or develop an interest in Paediatric Sleep medicine. Applications will be accepted from candidates near or post CCT in Neurodisability, Neurology, Respiratory Medicine, General Paediatrics or Community Paediatrics (or equivalent near completion of training as a consultant). Other relevant sub-specialities will be considered. Candidates looking to complete their CESR qualification in Paediatrics will also be considered.

The post offers opportunities for participationin Hypersomnolence clinics, Insomnia assessments in children with disability. The team provides advice to consultants from around the network and nationally, provide outreach clinics (Belfast) and participate in reporting of sleep diagnostics after being scored by trained sleep physiologists.

Our team holds transition clinics jointly with the adult sleep physicians at Guy's Hospital (largest sleep lab in Europe). Members of the team hold positions or work closely with the British Sleep Society, International Paediatric Sleep Association and The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. We run an ambulatory service in parallel. We support the Long Term Ventilation (LTV) team with diagnostic services for their children and young persons. We are the NHS England designated centre for management of the most complex narcolepsy patients in the region.
