Job summary

The NHS Genomic AI Network of Excellence, commissioned by NHS England to accelerate the adoption of AI in genomic medicine, is seeking a Project Manager to lead its delivery of projects. The Project Manager will work with partners across the AI and Genomics ecosystems to support teams who are developing or using AI tools, generate the evidence required to support AI adoption, connect individuals working on solving core challenges, and developing frameworks to support wider adoption of AI innovations in genomics. They will work closely with the Network's Director, Clinical Lead, and Network Coordinator to provide project leadership across the Network's programme of work.

It is an exciting time to join this innovative healthcare field as both genomics and AI gather pace across multiple areas of medicine. The post holder will have the opportunity to create meaningful impact in a new, cutting-edge genomics service in the NHS, leading on national and regional programmes to introduce innovative technologies for the benefit of patients.

They will be experienced in project managing change across multiple stakeholders, with an in depth understanding of the current AI and genomics environments, the challenges they face and the opportunities for innovation and change.

Main duties of the job

Project Management

Apply a structured project management approach for the delivery of specific projects across the GAIN programme

Ensure that the scope and deliverables of projects will result in operational benefits, and implement means of measuring these.

Support evaluation and audit of GAIN work programmes across sites and organisations.

Financial management

Support the management of contracts, specifications for tenders and awarding of new contracts.

Actively monitor expenditure against budget and address problems at an early stage.

Staff and stakeholder management

Line manage a small team of junior project and programme staff.

Motivates and encourages your team to strive for service and personal improvement.

Work collaboratively across regional stakeholders to ensure broad input in the development and delivery of projects, including patient and public voices

Personal Development

Maintain up to date knowledge of a range of skills including service improvement techniques and be responsible for developing and maintaining own CPD programme.

General

Autonomy for specific areas of GAIN programme, to assess the impact of change and make decisions, balancing risks and priorities

Provide advice to the Network Director and Clinical Lead.

About us

NHS England have commissioned 8 NHS Genomic Networks of Excellence to leverage partnerships across the NHS, academia and industry to drive the introduction of genomic technologies. The Genomic AI Network of Excellence will operate at the intersection of genomic medicine, AI development, and translational research to accelerate the adoption of AI solutions into NHS genomic medicine services. The Network will:

  • Build a national community in AI & genomics, acting as a hub for engagement in the identification of unmet needs and the development of clinically deployable tools
  • Work in close partnership with existing contributors in the AI and genomic medicine environment to collectively create the conditions necessary for the adoption of innovation
  • Inform and support nationally led solutions to address the distributed nature of NHS genomic informatics, producing frameworks for common approaches and solutions
  • Deliver exemplar translational research programmes to generate evidence for adoption, including data mining and natural language processing, variant interpretation, and AI deployment platforms.
  • Build public and patient understanding of AI within genomic medicine.

The Networks of Excellence are a component of the NHS Genomic Medicine Service (GMS), with delivery supported by GMS clinical and programme management resource. GAIN is co-hosted by the South East GMS and the Central and South GMS. The Project Manager post is hosted at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
