Job summary

The post holder will provide skilled diagnostic imaging services to the ophthalmic imaging and outpatient teams for the provision and overall smooth running of our clinical services.

Main duties of the job

  • OCT acquisition using Heidelberg and Topcon imaging systems.
  • Fundus fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography using the Heidelberg and Optos imaging systems.
  • Fundus imaging using Kowa and Optos systems.
  • Anterior segment imaging using the Carleton Optical imaging system.
  • Administrative preparation for virtual imaging clinics.
  • Continually monitor and audit departmental workload.
  • Active participation in weekly image review meetings

About us

The Department of Ophthalmology sits within the Directorate of Medical Specialties at GSTT.

We provide the full spectrum of Ophthalmology sub-specialties, including large General, Cataract, Glaucoma, Medical Retina and Paediatric services for our local population. We also host the Medical Eye Unit, which receives referrals nationally, to manage patients with highly complex medical eye conditions.

Ophthalmology is delivered from the St Thomas' Hospital site. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different locations owned or served by the Trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.

Qualifications/ Education

Essential

  • Graduate qualification (degree/masters) in Ophthalmic Science and Technology or equivalent
  • Specialist clinical experience to masters' level and or professional qualification

Desirable

  • To have City and Guilds 730(7) in adult education or equivalent /mentorship
  • experience in a role of ophthalmic technician/medical imaging

Previous knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of fundus photography, fluorescein angiography and indocyannine-green angiography
  • Experience in optical coherence tomography. In depth knowledge of a variety of retinal conditions
  • Proven detailed knowledge of a variety of ophthalmic conditions.

Desirable

  • Proven experience of anterior segment imaging
  • Experience of image management
